Alice.

Welcome to GothCandy.

GothCandy.com is my home, my recreation, my outlet. I've lived here, or elsewhere but similar, for longer than I can remember. Friends have come and gone, visitors have seen and left, and a few have left their mark. I had a blog years before the term was main-stream. Though this is a personal site — sites I frequently look down upon for lack of content or purpose — I hope that mine can help educate and enlighten even a few.

Apathy is a way of life.

My blog is my journal. I hope, more than ever, to be fairly consistent in its use. You see, things are changing in my life in more ways than most can imagine.

I am a transsexual; choose whatever acronym or abbreviation you wish, it is what I am. As I walk through the process of transition I document my steps in words or pictures. Transitioning is a long process with the most noticable changes being physical—which I will not likely show here, only write about—and mental, which should be apparent as my style of writing changes over time, or I mention specific elements of change. It is fortunate that I am patient.

All of my older work—blog entries, music, poetry, and prose—will become available over time in their respective sections.  For now, please enjoy what I have made available to you, and have an open mind.

Pardon the dust.

Please note that this site is still under development, and will likely be for quite some time.  This is the test-bed for my random TurboGears projects.  What you are looking at is, in fact, my custom content management system, or CMS.  What I've written so far is pretty basic - folders, pages, and a simple blog interface with some pretty cool features.  If you get an error attempting to do someting, please feel free to come back later and try again!

The following things should work:

  • Sigining in and signing out, if you happen to have an account.  Sessions stay for one week.
  • Modifying just about anything—pages, folders, blogs, and blog entries.
  • Adding new blog entries and comments using the website interface.
  • Getting the main (non-filtered) RSS and Atom feeds from hosted blogs.
  • Permalinks on every concrete Atom—pages, folders, and blogs.

Things that are pretty sure to not work:

  • Creating new concrete Atoms—pages, folders, and blogs—from the website interface.
  • Moving concrete Atoms from parent to parent, and re-arranging them within one parent.
  • Getting filtered RSS and Atom feeds.
  • Getting RSS and Atom feeds on comments.
  • Permalinks on blog entries.
  • Pretty AJAX to inline-edit the title, description/lead, content, and tags on concrete Atoms and soft datatypes alike.

Many of the above items will require that you have the correct permissions.  All of them will come in time—and don't worry if you didn't understand any of that.  This is more a list for me than for anyone else, really.

花鳥風月

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man person perish, yet the inward man person is renewed day by day.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

— 2 Corinthians 4
